6:00 pm to 7:00 pm: A Day in the Life of an IT tech
Engage in a panel discussion exploring the types of activities and scope of work experienced by IT professionals in the Colorado Mountain College community. Recently employed CMC technology students from the Summit Campus will describe the kinds of skills that are required and what their jobs entail. Discussion panel will include Jerry DelValle from the IT department of Vail Associates, Derrick Wood from the IT department of Climax Mine, and Alice Santman , a field IT tech with Common Knowledge Technologies. Phil Huff, CMC adjunct computer technology instructor and local IT professional, will moderate.
7:00 pm to 7:15 pm: “Overview of the AAS-IT program and certificates” Presented by Maureen Stepp
Maureen Stepp, principle architect of the new CMC AAS-IT program and associate certificates, will review these programs and how they will meet the training needs of both technology students and employers.
7:15 pm until 8:00 pm: Meet and Greet in the lobby
Enjoy refreshments and visit with IT professionals as well as CMC faculty and administrators.
8:00 pm to 9:30 pm: Phishing, FakeAV, Social Engineering: What does it all mean to me?
Phishing, a form of social engineering, is at the heart of recent attacks by both small-time cyber criminals and international spy rings. The CMC technology department will host a presentation by senior security engineer, Chuck Little,about phishing attacks, how they are shaped, and how computer users can avoid them.
